Seeking an Injunction
New Toronto Initiative has been working hard behind the scenes and this week an injunction, supported by expert and community affidavits, has been filed with the courts seeking to stop any further work on the proposed shelter at 66 Third Street due to serious planning and zoning concerns. Read the press release.
This injunction supports the questions in our claim against the City about zoning compliance and whether proper approvals to develop the site as a shelter were ever in place.
An injunction is a court order that temporarily stops work or activity to prevent potential harm while a legal issue is being decided. We are asking the Court to urgently pause the City’s work on the proposed shelter until the legal claim can be properly heard and decided.
We support solutions for the unhoused - but they must be done the right way, respecting the law, and the rights of all residents who live here.
We need your support. If you haven’t yet signed up to become an NTI member, please join today. When we can say we represent 1000’s of committed members, it changes how seriously our position is considered. If you love where you live, it’s time to join the New Toronto Initiative.
Thanks for joining us.
