Advocating for a vibrant, thriving South Etobicoke
New Toronto Initiative is a group of neighbours who have been actively listening to the community’s concerns about the proposal to build an emergency shelter and harm reduction site at 66 Third St. We want to make sure our community’s concerns are heard and not ignored.
Donations
Every dollar raised will power this not-for-profit’s fight to expose what the City wants hidden - funding Freedom of Information requests to uncover the truth, and covering legal and other costs necessary to hold those in power accountable.
We also accept private donations. Please reach out to us by email for more information, your details will be kept in confidence.

We’ve taken a deep dive into the Homelessness Services Capital Infrastructure Strategy (HSCIS), and how it ties into the proposed shelter in our neighbourhood. If you want to understand the whole picture of what’s behind 66 Third Street, we’ve created a brief for you.

The Local Reality
An unbalanced neighbourhood concentrates challenges and strains communities. Equitable distribution of services supports vulnerable people, and gives communities a chance to thrive.
Our Concerns
In April 2025, the City said the shelter proposed for 66 Third Street would now have 50 - 60 beds and “focus on seniors”. No matter who the shelter serves, this is still the wrong location.
